EU, German delegation visits EU-funded climate resilience project in Thatta

A delegation comprising representatives of the German Embassy, European Union, GIZ, Sindh People’s Housing for Flood Affectees (SPHF), and other partner organisations visited Village Chaglo Jokhio in Union Council Gujo, District Thatta, to review progress under the EU-BMZ-funded Adaptive Social Protection (ASP) Project.  

SUKKUR, May 14 (APP):A delegation comprising representatives of the German Embassy, European Union, GIZ, Sindh People’s Housing for Flood Affectees (SPHF), and other partner organisations visited Village Chaglo Jokhio in Union Council Gujo, District Thatta, to review progress under the EU-BMZ-funded Adaptive Social Protection (ASP) Project.
According to SRSO’s Media Consultant Jamil Ahmed on Thursday,  the project is being implemented by GIZ in partnership with the Sindh Rural Support Organisation (SRSO).
The delegation included Ms. Mirjam Büdenbender-Buchholz, Counsellor at the German Embassy; Ms. Maria Jose Poddey, Country Director GIZ; Ms. Johanna Knoess, Head of ASP GIZ; and officials from CRS, SDPI, SSPA, BISP, SRSO and SPHF.
Upon arrival, the delegation was received by Khadim Hussain Shar, Regional General Manager SRSO. At the Village Organisation meeting point, women members welcomed the guests with a Sindhi cultural song and briefed them on community initiatives.
GIZ officials explained the objectives of the visit and presented the Climate Resilient Settlement Development Plan and master plan for the model village. Community members interacted with the delegation and shared their experiences of project interventions.
The delegation visited several project sites, including Cash-for-Work activities, a BISP mobile registration van, and the GIZ social registry desk for informal workers. SRSO engineers briefed visitors on infrastructure works such as brick pavement, hand pump installation, culvert construction, and irrigation channel rehabilitation.
They also observed plantation drives, shadow tree planting, and organic kitchen gardening plots supported with open-pollinated vegetable seeds for the Kharif season. CRS and SRSO engineers briefed the delegation on a sewerage treatment plant and other community infrastructure works.
The delegation visited hygiene awareness sessions by CRS, digital and financial literacy training by SDPI, and SPHF-supported houses built for flood-affected families. Officials appreciated the climate-resilient housing model and community-led reconstruction approach.  Tree plantation was carried out by the visiting officials to mark the occasion.
SRSO officials presented traditional Sindhi gifts to the visiting dignitaries.
