DC sets uniform flour rates, warns against overcharging, hoarding
HYDERABAD, Jul 03 (APP): Taking notice of the rising flour prices following an increase in wheat prices in the open market, Deputy Commissioner Zain-ul-Abedin Memon chaired an important meeting at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, Hyderabad. The meeting was attended by the District Food Controller, officials of the Bureau of Supply & Prices, representatives of the Flour Mills Association, Atta Chakki Association, Kiryana Merchants Association, Supermarkets and other relevant stakeholders.
According to a handout, the meeting was informed that a 100 kg bag of wheat was being sold in the open market for between Rs 11,500 and Rs 11,800, resulting in flour being sold at up to Rs 150 per kilogram in certain areas. To provide relief to consumers and ensure the availability of flour at uniform prices, revised rates were finalized through mutual consultation.
It was unanimously decided that the wholesale price of flour supplied by flour mills would be Rs127 per kilogram, while the retail price would be Rs 130 per kilogram. Similarly, for atta chakkis and retail shops, the wholesale price was fixed at Rs. 145 per kilogram and the retail price at Rs 148 per kilogram.
DC directed the concerned departments to ensure strict implementation of the notified rates and take indiscriminate action against overcharging, hoarding and profiteering. He also appealed to the public to report any shopkeeper charging above the official rates so that prompt legal action could be taken.
At the conclusion of the meeting, all associations and stakeholders assured the district administration of their full cooperation and agreed to strictly implement the officially notified flour prices.
