CM Sindh says assembly proper constitutional forum to discuss province’s future

KARACHI, Aug 31 (APP): Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah on Monday said Sindh Assembly was the proper constitutional forum to discuss the province’s future, emphasizing that all viewpoints should be heard within the House.

“The Assembly must hear both sides of the argument regarding the division of Sindh and take the debate to its logical conclusion,” he said on the floor of the Sindh Assembly.

The Chief Minister said all debates on the province’s future must be conducted through the constitutional forum of the provincial legislature.

He recalled that the House repeatedly expressed its position through resolutions adopted in 1948, 2000, 2014, 2019, and 2026.

Murad Ali Shah noted that his government had decided to allow a more comprehensive discussion on the issue and had therefore brought an adjournment motion to facilitate debate.

He explained that under parliamentary rules, an adjournment motion takes precedence over an ordinary resolution because it allows all routine business to be suspended for discussion of an issue of public importance.

The Chief Minister stated that an adjournment motion requires the support of at least 34 members.

He expressed Pakistan Peoples Party’s desire to ensure the unity and integrity of Sindh.

Concluding his remarks, the Chief Minister said the debate could continue for as long as required to ensure a thorough discussion.

Members of the provincial assembly belonging to treasury and opposition benches also spoke on the adjournment motion.

Earlier, the session started with recitation from the Holy Quran and Naat Sharif with Speaker Syed Awais Qadir Shah in the chair.
