SUKKUR, Jun 17 (APP):Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah on Wednesday paid rich tribute to Gambat Institute of Medical Sciences and its Director Dr Raheem Bux Bhatti for establishing a model of free, quality healthcare in rural Sindh during his address in an event.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister said GIMS had set a precedent by providing completely free treatment to millions of patients, proving that public welfare remained the top priority of the Sindh government. He noted that under Dr Bhatti’s leadership for the past 45 years, the hospital had become a beacon of hope for people from across the province and beyond.
“Dr Raheem Bux Bhatti’s dedication and the hard work of the GIMS team is a practical manifestation of the Sindh government’s vision,”  CM Murad Ali Shah said.
Highlighting the hospital’s achievements, the chief minister pointed out that GIMS houses Pakistan’s largest free lung transplant centre, a kidney centre offering free dialysis and transplants, and the Gambat Burn Centre, which provides relief to burn victims at no cost. He added that the facility had extended free medical services to 2.97 million patients so far.
The chief minister’s remarks in the assembly were widely welcomed by lawmakers who described GIMS as a success story of public-private collaboration in the health sector. The recognition comes as the hospital marks 45 years of service this year.
Dr Bhatti, a pioneer in organ transplantation in Pakistan, has been credited with transforming Gambat from a small town into a medical hub. The hospital continues to attract patients from across the country due to its policy of “no fees, no discrimination.”
