KARACHI, Jun 26 (APP):Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah on Friday joined and led the Ashura procession at Sea Breeze Plaza on the 10th of Muharram-ulharam, expressing solidarity with mourners and paying tribute to the sacrifices of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his loyal companions.
Provincial Minister Saeed Ghani and Senator Waqar Mehdi accompanied the chief minister.
Speaking to the media on the occasion, the chief minister said that the message of Karbala teaches Muslims to stand firmly for truth and righteousness and never hesitate to make sacrifices for noble causes.
“We must always support truth and justice and should never shy away from any sacrifice in this regard,” he said.
The chief minister thanked procession organisers, religious scholars, volunteers, government officials and citizens for their cooperation in maintaining peace and order during Muharram.
He noted that several meetings had been held at the Chief Minister’s House to review and finalise security and administrative arrangements for the holy month.
Referring to a few unfortunate incidents that occurred during Muharram this year, Murad Ali Shah said a vehicle had accidentally entered the premises of an imambargah in Defence, while in Shikarpur, some mourners were martyred when an alam came into contact with electricity wires. He added that four mourners had also lost their lives in the Shama Gul procession in Rohri.
“These incidents indicate the need for further improving our arrangements and preventive measures to avoid such tragedies in the future,” he said.
Murad Ali Shah said there was no specific security threat during Muharram, but cautioned that the enemies of Pakistan always remain vigilant for opportunities to create unrest.
He emphasised that organisers, government representatives, law enforcement agencies and the media must work together to ensure that mischief-makers do not get any chance to disturb peace and harmony.
The chief minister expressed satisfaction over the overall security and administrative arrangements across the province and prayed for peace, unity and prosperity for the country.
Briefing the media, the chief minister said that 1,292 processions and 1,637 majalis were being held across Sindh on Ashura.
He added that extensive security arrangements had been put in place, with 59,265 police personnel deployed throughout the province to ensure the safety of mourners. In addition, 2,630 personnel of the Pakistan Army and 6,700 personnel of the Pakistan Rangers were assisting in security duties.
Murad Ali Shah said that modern surveillance systems were being used to monitor the processions, with CCTV cameras installed at highly sensitive locations and additional cameras covering dozens of key points along procession routes.
He expressed satisfaction over the arrangements and appreciated the efforts of the police, Rangers, district administration, organisers and volunteers.
The chief minister directed all security and administrative officials to remain vigilant and avoid any negligence or lapse in duty. “All available resources and capabilities must be utilised to ensure effective monitoring and the peaceful conclusion of Ashura processions,” he said, adding that mourners should not face any inconvenience during the observance of Muharram.
Expressing confidence in the law enforcement agencies, Murad Ali Shah said, “I have complete faith in the capabilities of our security forces. Today is a day that symbolises the triumph of truth over falsehood, and it is our collective responsibility to uphold the spirit of peace, sacrifice and unity that Ashura represents.”
The CM also commended the law enforcement agencies and the administration for the effective measures taken during Muharram-ul-Haram and expressed hope that the observances would conclude peacefully across the province.
