154 violators penalized in a single day during action against profiteers in Karachi

KARACHI, Apr 29 (APP):The Karachi Administration’s campaign against illegal profiteering for selling essential goods at inflated prices continued.

Commissioner Karachi, Syed Hasan Naqvi, has directed all Deputy Commissioners to play an active and effective role in enforcing officially notified prices of essential items, said a spokesperson on Wednesday.

The Commissioner has instructed Deputy Commissioners to take strict, no-compromise action against illegal profiteers and to ensure that official price rates are rigorously implemented.

The Commissioner Karachi Office has released a report detailing enforcement actions taken during the ongoing anti-profiteering campaign.

According to the report, all Assistant Commissioners conducted inspections of examination centers, carried out operations to remove encroachments, and simultaneously monitored the prices of essential food items.

During the operation against profiteers, total 154 vendors were penalized and fines of Rs 383,000 were imposed and two shops were sealed.

In Central 54 vendors were penalized and fine Rs 104,000 was imposed, in East 16 shopkeepers were penalized and Rs 56,000 penalty was imposed, in Keamari 19 shopkeepers were penalized and Rs 31,000 penalty was imposed while two shops were sealed, in Korangi total 16 profiteers were penalized and Rs 46,000 was imposed, in Malir 10 vendors were penalized and Rs 35,000 penalty was imposed, in
South 32 shopkeepers were fined with Rs 102,000 penalties while in district West seven profiteers were fined and Rs 7 7,800 were imposed in terms of penalties.

The administration has reiterated its commitment to protecting consumers from price gouging and ensuring the availability of essential commodities at government-approved rates. Citizens have been advised to report violations through official channels.
