WUM ranks 2nd among Pakistan’s women varsities

MULTAN, Sep 27 (APP): Women University Multan (WUM) has secured the second position among Pakistan’s women universities in the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings 2026, placing 28th nationally and 653rd globally, with an overall score of 6,597.5 points.

The 2026 edition of the ranking featured 2,016 higher education institutions from 110 countries, the largest so far. Among Pakistani women’s universities, Fatima Jinnah Women University ranked 612th globally, followed by WUM at 653rd, while Government College Women University Faisalabad placed 674th.

WUM scored 725 points in Setting and Infrastructure, 1,300 in Energy and Climate Change, 625 in Waste, 575 in Water, 1,297.5 in Transportation, 1,125 in Education, and 950 in Governance and Digitalization. The University performed strongest in Energy and Climate Change, Transportation and Education.

The UI GreenMetric framework ranks universities on campus infrastructure, energy use, climate action, waste and water management, transportation, education, and governance and digitalization, with the last category added as a formal indicator this year.

University officials said WUM has taken steps to improve energy efficiency, promote renewable energy, conserve water, strengthen waste management and encourage sustainable transportation, while working to embed sustainability into teaching, research and planning.

Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Syeda Shahida Batool said the ranking reflected the University’s growing international profile and academic stature, crediting the collective effort of students, faculty, officers and staff. She said WUM would continue advancing sustainability, research and technological innovation, and build on the achievement through further institutional improvement.
