RAWALPINDI, Aug 05 (APP): Rawalpindi Women University marked Youm-e-Istehsal-e-Kashmir with a series of activities aimed at reinforcing solidarity with the people of Kashmir and deepening awareness of the longstanding dispute, drawing active participation from faculty members, administrative staff, and students here on Wednesday.
The keynote session was led by Dr. Waleed Rasool, Convener Research and Academic Initiatives at the Higher Education Commission (HEC), who attended as the chief guest.
In his address, he contextualized the Kashmir issue through its historical evolution and legal dimensions, emphasizing its status as a recognized international dispute under United Nations resolutions. He underscored the imperative of a just and durable resolution grounded in international law. Dr. Waleed also acknowledged the role of Pakistan’s armed forces in safeguarding national sovereignty, paying tribute to their professionalism and sacrifices.
In her message, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Tayyaba Zarif highlighted the significance of the day as a moment of reflection on principles of international law, human dignity, and collective conscience. She reaffirmed the university’s commitment, as a women’s institution, to advancing dialogue, education, and respect for human rights while advocating for a peaceful and equitable future for the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
An awareness walk followed the seminar, where participants carried placards and banners expressing support for the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination and calling for peace, justice, and the protection of fundamental human rights.
The event concluded with a one-minute silence in remembrance of the martyrs of occupied Jammu and Kashmir and in solidarity with those affected by the ongoing conflict, as participants reiterated their resolve to continue raising their voice for a just cause and for lasting peace in the region.
