RAWALPINDI, Jul 11 (APP): Taxila Police gave a swift response to an emergency Rescue 15 call and saved the life of a woman after she and her husband were allegedly forced to consume poison in an apparent honour-related attack.
Four suspects, including one who was injured during an exchange of fire with police, were arrested at the scene.
According to a police spokesperson, the police team rushed to the location after receiving the emergency call and found the husband and wife in a semi-conscious condition.
As soon as the suspects noticed the police party, they allegedly opened fire, prompting police to retaliate. During the operation, four accused, including one injured suspect, were arrested and weapons were recovered from their possession.
The victims were immediately shifted to hospital for medical treatment. However, the woman’s husband, identified as Afzal, succumbed to his condition. Police said the exact cause of death would be determined after the post-mortem examination.
The woman survived due to the timely intervention of the police and prompt medical treatment. She remains under treatment at the hospital.
Police said the couple had allegedly been forced to consume poison by the accused in the name of so-called “honour.” A case is being registered, and investigators are collecting evidence to ensure the arrested suspects are prosecuted and awarded punishment in accordance with the law.
The accused would be challaned with solid evidence after completion of the investigation, the spokesperson added.
