SIALKOT, Nov 01 (APP):Police arrested six suspects following a severe stampede that left one person dead and 18 others injured during a wedding function at Faraz Cricket Ground on Daska Road..
According to a spokesperson on Sunday, the victim was identified as Aqeel, son of Bashir Ahmed. All 18 injured individuals were shifted to nearby hospitals by Rescue 1122 and discharged after receiving necessary medical treatment.
According to police, First Information Report (FIR No. 1335/26) was registered at Motra Police Station on the complaint of SHO Inspector Mubeen Ahmed Cheema against nine nominated individuals—including event organizer Ansar Mahmood alias ‘Mr Patlu’, Kashif, ground owner Haji Shahid Javed, and co-organizers Daniyal, Munir Ahmed, Mohsin Ali, Irshad Ali, Abdullah, and Zohaib Mansha—along with 40 to 45 unidentified security guards.
The case has been filed under Sections 322, 431, 440, 188, 109, 148, and 149 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) and Section 16 of the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO).
Preliminary police investigations revealed that the organizers had announced a lucky draw on social media featuring cars, motorcycles, and other valuable prizes, attracting an unexpectedly huge crowd. The stampede was triggered when an announcement was made over the loudspeaker directing participants to enter the ground simultaneously.
Police stated that the organizers committed severe violations of safety standard operating procedures (SOPs) and event permission conditions, resulting in civil disturbance, damage to public property, and massive traffic blockades along the main Daska-Sialkot Road.
District Police Officer (DPO) Sialkot Captain (retd) Dost Muhammad personally supervised the emergency rescue operations, cleared ambulance access routes, and oversaw crowd control alongside heavy police contingents and Elite Force personnel.
Reiterating a strict stance, DPO Dost Muhammad stated that negligence regarding safety protocols at public gatherings would not be tolerated and vowed that all accused individuals would face unbiased legal action strictly on merit. Raids are currently underway to arrest the remaining fleeing suspects.
