WASA remains on high alert as intermittent rain continues in Rawalpindi

Intermittent rain has continued in Rawalpindi since last night, prompting the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) to remain on high alert at the direction of Deputy Commissioner Rawalpindi, Captain (Retd) Nadeem Nasir.

RAWALPINDI, Aug 18 (APP):Intermittent rain has continued in Rawalpindi since last night, prompting the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) to remain on high alert at the direction of Deputy Commissioner Rawalpindi, Captain (Retd) Nadeem Nasir.
Managing Director WASA Rawalpindi Azizullah Khan said WASA staff and heavy machinery had been deployed in low-lying areas, while he was personally supervising drainage operations in the field.
He said heavy machinery had been positioned at Liaquat Bagh, Committee Chowk Underpass, Murree Road, Dhok Khaba, Circular Road and Sadiqabad to deal with possible water accumulation.
The MD said Nullah Lai was being continuously monitored, with water levels recorded at 10.5 feet at Katarian and 8.5 feet at Gawalmandi.
He said garbage carried into Nullah Lai during the previous rainfall had been removed in time, allowing water to flow normally without obstruction.
According to Meteorological Department data shared by WASA, rainfall of 3 mm was recorded at Saidpur, 22 mm at Golra, 59 mm at Bokra, 47 mm at PMD, 115 mm at Shamsabad, 26 mm at Kachhari, 72 mm at Pirwadhai, 59 mm at Gawalmandi and 64 mm at New Katarian.
Azizullah appealed to citizens not to throw garbage into drains and sewers or remove sewer covers, saying such practices could obstruct the drainage system.
He urged citizens to contact the WASA helpline immediately in case of any emergency.
