LAHORE, Nov 01 (APP):Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab Abdul Karim on Sunday declared that incidents of abuse and violence against women and children are a “red line” under Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s ‘Safe Punjab Vision’, directing officers to prioritize the timely resolution of such cases.
According to a spokesperson, presiding over a review meeting on investigation affairs, serious crimes, and prosecution progress, the IG Punjab instructed police commanders to accelerate efforts for the swift logical conclusion of heinous offenses, including murder and kidnapping.
IGP Abdul Karim ordered all District Police Officers (DPOs) to update data regarding challans (charge sheets) and proclaimed offenders from 2024 to date on the Police Record Management System (PRMS) by November 15, categorized region-wise.
He directed DPOs to assign specific targets to Sub-Divisional Police Officers (SDPOs) and Station House Officers (SHOs) within set timeframes, while personally reviewing First Information Reports (FIRs) of serious crimes and evaluating officer performance through regular inspections.
To ensure effective court proceedings, the provincial police chief instructed investigation officers to brief their respective DPOs before appearing in court and to present complete records during hearings. He further directed Regional Police Officers (RPOs) to enhance coordination between investigation officers and prosecutors to streamline the case submission mechanism.
Reiterating his zero-tolerance policy on discipline, Abdul Karim emphasized that strict accountability will continue for personnel found involved in corruption, abuse of power, or breach of official code of conduct.
The meeting also reviewed measures and a strategy to improve coordination between investigation officers and the prosecution. The IG of Punjab directed the RPOs to set targets aimed at making the investigation and ‘challaning’ (case submission) mechanisms more effective.
Abdul Karim made it clear that strict accountability will continue for personnel involved in corruption, abuse of authority, or violations of the code of conduct.
