US consul general in Lahore calls on Punjab Assembly speaker

LAHORE, May 15 (APP):United States Consul General in Lahore Stetson Sanders called Punjab Assembly (PA) Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan here on Friday.

Minister of State Malik Rashid Ahmad Khan was also present. During the meeting, detailed discussions were held on Pakistan-U.S. relations, regional peace, trade, education, climate change, food security and other matters of mutual interest.

Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan stated that Pakistan and the United States enjoy relations based on mutual trust and a strong partnership. He said he was keen to further strengthen ties between Punjab and the U.S. state of California.

He further said, “Pakistani-American community is playing an effective bridge-building role between the two countries.”

The speaker said that exchanges of parliamentary delegations would further enhance bilateral relations and mutual cooperation.

He also briefed the U.S. Consul General on the legislative work of the Punjab Assembly, the effective functioning of its Standing Committees and parliamentary procedures.

U.S. Consul General Stetson Sanders appreciated Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts aimed at promoting peace in the region and said that the United States seeks to further strengthen diplomatic relations and parliamentary cooperation with Pakistan.

Political and Economic Specialist at the U.S. Consulate Lahore Sadaf Saad was also present on the occasion.
