UoG holds architecture workshop

GUJRAT, Oct 27 (APP):The University of Gujrat (UoG) Department of Architecture organised a two-day workshop on the role of geometry in design at Hafiz Hayat Campus to enhance students’ understanding of geometric principles and their practical application in architecture.
According to a university spokesperson, the workshop highlighted the relationship between mathematics, geometry and cosmology, with a focus on geometric patterns in Islamic and Mughal architecture and other cultural traditions.
Architects Hassan Taimoor Khan Mumtaz and Hafiz Muhammad Bilal Ashraf served as resource persons. They conducted lectures, drawing exercises and practical demonstrations to explain the use of geometric patterns, architectural forms, facades, arches and square and triangular grids in design.
Students also participated in hands-on activities, creating geometric patterns on studio floors using masking tape and developing designs on glass surfaces with paper. These exercises helped participants understand the application of geometric principles in contemporary architectural design and traditional craftsmanship.
Department of Architecture Chairperson Dr Ayesha Anwar hosted the workshop, while FADFA Director Prof Muhammad Asif Sharif welcomed the guest experts. Students from the 2022 batch and Spring 2026, along with faculty members, attended the event.
At the concluding session, Dr Ayesha Anwar thanked the participants and stressed that geometry was fundamental to architecture. The resource persons later visited Hafiz Hayat’s shrine to examine the traditional geometric patterns displayed in its baradari
