LAHORE, May 02 (APP): A two-day summit on blockchain and digital assets began at the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) on Saturday, bringing together policymakers, experts and industry stakeholders to deliberate on the future of digital finance in Pakistan, here on Saturday.
Chairman Pakistan Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (PVARA) Bilal Bin Saqib, addressing the opening session said the use of digital assets was growing rapidly in the country, adding that the government was working on a comprehensive regulatory framework for the sector.
He noted that around 40 million Pakistanis were currently engaged in digital assets through informal platforms, highlighting both opportunities and associated risks.
He said efforts were underway to bring users into the formal financial system to ensure transparency and consumer protection.
He further said blockchain technology could play a transformative role in key sectors including remittances and freelancing.
The conference was also attended by LUMS Vice Chancellor Ali Cheema along with policymakers and industry experts. Various sessions will focus on artificial intelligence, blockchain integration and the evolving digital finance ecosystem.
Participants expressed optimism that the summit would contribute to shaping a regulatory framework and supporting sustainable growth of the country’s digital economy.
