Lahore Police on Tuesday launched action against individuals offering bribes in a bid to ensure transparency and merit in the police system,registering two cases against citizens allegedly attempting to influence police proceedings.

LAHORE, Sep 08 (APP):Lahore Police on Tuesday launched action against individuals offering bribes in a bid to ensure transparency and merit in the police system,registering two cases against citizens allegedly attempting to influence police proceedings.
According to a spokesperson,separate cases were registered at New Anarkali and Misri Shah police stations under Section 162 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) for allegedly offering bribes.
At New Anarkali,suspect Muhammad Jafar allegedly attempted to offer Rs.5000 to settle a matter.
Police took the Rs.5000 offered as a bribe into custody as evidence and arrested the suspect.
In another incident at Misri Shah,suspect Umar Farooq allegedly attempted to offer Rs.1000 to a guide constable to get a favour done for his friend. Police seized the amount as evidence and took the suspect into custody.
Lahore Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Operations,Faisal Kamran said strict departmental and legal action would be taken against police officials found demanding bribes.
He said offering a bribe to avoid legal action or obtain an undue favour from police was also a crime,adding that no one would be given any concession,whether a police official demanding a bribe or an individual offering one.
The DIG said elimination of corruption,ensuring transparency and providing justice to citizens on merit were among the top priorities of Lahore Police.
He said a zero-tolerance policy against corruption was being implemented,adding that ensuring timely justice and relief to citizens while making the police system free from corruption remained a priority.
