Training session regarding women harassment held
SARGODHA, Sep 30 (APP):Punjab Ombudsman Dr. Najma Afzal said that providing a safe, dignified and harassment-free environment for women at the workplace is the primary responsibility of institutions. She stressed the need for effective implementation of existing laws to ensure legal protection and prompt justice for women facing harassment.
She expressed these views while addressing a training session for members and focal persons of anti-harassment committees established in various government institutions. The session was held in the committee room of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, Sargodha. Deputy Commissioner Hussain Ahmed Raza Chaudhry was also present on the occasion.
Dr. Afzal said the training sessions were being organized to enhance the capacity of anti-harassment committee members and familiarize them with transparent inquiry processes, legal requirements and proper procedures for investigating harassment complaints.
She said women could also submit their complaints on plain paper, making the complaint process simple and accessible. She emphasized that workplaces must ensure women’s dignity and safety and provide timely redressal of complaints in accordance with the law.
Deputy Commissioner Hussain Ahmed Raza Chaudhry said providing a safe and conducive working environment for women in government institutions was among the district administration’s priorities. He stressed that training anti-harassment committee members was essential to make the committees active and effective and to ensure that complaints were addressed fairly and in accordance with the law.
He directed all government departments to ensure that their anti-harassment committees remained functional and that complaints were dealt with promptly under the prescribed legal procedures.
Members of anti-harassment committees from various institutions, Law Officer Qazi Mureed, Personal Staff Officer to the Female Ombudsman Punjab Hafiz Farooq Anwar, President Bar Malik Ramiz Farooq and other speakers also addressed the session.
