Training for sugarcane professionals of African countries concludes at UAF

Four-week training for 15 sugarcane professionals of African countries arranged by Department of Plant Breeding and Genetics Dept, University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) in collaboration with Sugarcane Research and Development Board has concluded at Center for Advanced Studies in Agriculture and Food Security, UAF.

FAISALABAD, Jul 10 (APP): Four-week training for 15 sugarcane professionals of African countries arranged by Department of Plant Breeding and Genetics Dept, University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) in collaboration with Sugarcane Research and Development Board has concluded at Center for Advanced Studies in Agriculture and Food Security, UAF.
UAF Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Zulfiqar Ali while addressing the concluding session said that such collaborations are the need of time to tackle agrarian challenges.
He said that in Pakistan, sugarcane provides raw material to the 2nd largest agro-based sugar industry. The country sugarcane production increased by 6.2 percent to 89.45 million tonnes in 2025-26, driven by a 3.7 percent improvement, he added.
SRDB CEO Dr Shahid Afghan; Chief Scientist, Sugarcane Research Institute, Ayub Research Dr Kashif Munir, and Prof. Dr Asif Tanveer (consultant SRDB) while that training sessions provide comprehensive skills to the participants for addressing the sugarcane challenges.
They stressed the need to maximizing sugarcane and sugar productivity through high-yield varieties and implementing the latest techniques.
