MULTAN, Jun 20 (APP): Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani on Saturday said that skilled manpower, rather than academic degrees alone, was the key driver of success in today’s competitive global economy.
Addressing the convocation of the College of Tourism and Hotel Management, Gilani said it was encouraging to see a large number of graduates entering the professional world, stressing that education without practical skills was insufficient in securing employment.
He said even highly qualified individuals could face difficulties without expertise, while those equipped with practical training and professional skills were securing opportunities both nationally and internationally.
Congratulating the graduating students, their parents and faculty, he said the convocation marked the beginning of a new phase in their lives and expressed confidence that the graduates would contribute positively to society.
Highlighting Pakistan’s economic potential, the Senate chairman said sectors such as tourism, hospitality, aviation services and information technology offered vast opportunities.
He said the country’s cultural heritage and scenic destinations provided strong prospects for tourism-led growth.
Gilani said nearly 60 percent of Pakistan’s population comprised youth, calling it a major asset if effectively trained and equipped with modern skills.
He noted that international demand for skilled Pakistani workers was rising, citing that Italy alone had more than 10,500 job opportunities for trained professionals.
He urged educational institutions to focus on skill development in collaboration with relevant welfare organizations, including Bait-ul-Mal to enhance employment opportunities at home and abroad.
The Senate chairman also lauded Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts on the global stage, saying the country had played a constructive role in promoting peace and easing tensions internationally, which had improved its global image.
Earlier, Ahmed Shafique and Waqas Raza also addressed the convocation, highlighting the institution’s role in producing skilled professionals for the tourism and hospitality sectors.
The ceremony concluded with the distribution of degrees and awards among graduating students.
