SARGODHA, Aug 23 (APP):Special Assistant to Chief Minister(CM) Punjab for Inspection Teams Shoaib Mirza on Sunday chaired a meeting at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office here to review development projects and administrative affairs in the district.
Deputy Commissioner(DC),Hussain Ahmad Raza Chaudhry,Additional Deputy Commissioners and officials from WASA, Buildings,Highways, Municipal Corporation, District Council, Punjab Saaf Pani Authority, Suthra Punjab and other departments attended the meeting, while all Assistant Commissioners participated through video link.
The meeting was informed that development works were underway in 18 villages of the district under the Chief Minister Punjab’s Model Villages Program at a cost of Rs.2.14 billion.
Officials gave detailed briefings on the progress of work in each village.
Shoaib Mirza directed officials to ensure the quality of material used in development projects and personally inspect schemes in the field instead of limiting themselves to offices.
He directed them to visit each village regularly and ordered strict action against those responsible for using substandard material or carrying out poor-quality work.
He said cases could also be referred to the Anti-Corruption Establishment or police where necessary.
Managing Director WASA Rao Abu Bakr Imran briefed the meeting on ongoing projects under the Chief Minister Punjab Development Program, aying 48 percent of the overall work had been completed.
He said 163 millimeters of rainfall recorded on July 25 was drained from affected areas in around four hours, compared with 14 to 18 hours required for similar situations in previous years.
The special assistant reviewed WASA machinery and drainage arrangements and directed officials to ensure prompt response to public complaints received through the WASA helpline.
He appreciated WASA’s performance, saying the noticeable reduction in complaints regarding stagnant rainwater during the current monsoon indicated improvement in the drainage system.
Shoaib Mirza directed Education Department officials to ensure deep cleaning of all educational institutions before schools reopened.
He also directed Assistant Commissioners to personally visit schools and review cleanliness arrangements and implementation of the Chief Minister’s education initiatives.
Officials of the Highways Department briefed the meeting on road rehabilitation and projects under the Khushhal Punjab Program.
They said 61 schemes were underway in the district, with around 90 percent of the work completed.
The special assistant directed authorities to ensure lane marking, signboards and other necessary facilities on roads across all tehsils.
The meeting was informed that eight schemes for construction and repair of roads through the district’s own resources had been proposed on the directions of the Chief Minister, with an estimated cost of around Rs.1 billion.
Shoaib Mirza also received individual briefings from all Assistant Commissioners regarding ongoing provincial initiatives and local development projects in their respective areas.
He directed officials to beautify the entry and exit points of all tehsils, complete lane marking and signage, number streets and neighbourhoods and prioritize public-facility projects.
He also stressed the need to establish ladies’ parks and children’s parks in the tehsils.
The special assistant said development projects on a scale not witnessed in previous decades were currently being undertaken.
He directed officials to strengthen the price-control system, ensure manhole covers and safety grills and maintain continuous monitoring of public facilities.
He directed all Assistant Commissioners to highlight their official activities and public welfare initiatives through social media.
Regarding the Suthra Punjab cleanliness operation, he directed officials to conduct field inspections and take action against contractors failing to meet contractual obligations or prescribed cleanliness standards.
He said cases could be referred to the Anti-Corruption Establishment where necessary.
He also ordered effective monitoring of open plots,100 percent attendance of sanitation workers and cleanliness standards, along with regular visits to rural areas.
Shoaib Mirza directed authorities to take action against illegal banners, posters and wall chalking across all tehsils, stressing that unauthorized promotional material would not be tolerated.
He also called for promotion of modern digital signboards and improvement of signage across the district.
DC Hussain Ahmad Raza Chaudhry briefed the meeting on various Chief Minister Punjab initiatives, development projects, sanitation, drainage, price control and other administrative matters in the district.
He said the district administration was fully mobilized to ensure timely completion of projects, monitor quality and provide better facilities to citizens.
