LAHORE, Apr 03 (APP): Punjab Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique has announced that Rs 500 million has been allocated for the construction of a new tower at Allama Iqbal Teaching Hospital Sialkot under the supervision of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif.
According to a handout issued on Friday, the minister said that the tendering process for the project has been completed and the foundation stone will be laid soon. He added that the new tower, comprising 300 beds, will be completed on a fast-track basis within two years.
The minister shared these remarks during his visit to Allama Iqbal Teaching Hospital on the instructions of the Chief Minister. Secretary Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education Azmat Mahmood and Principal Khawaja Safdar Medical College Professor Dr. Huma Kiani Sehgal were also present on the occasion.
Khawaja Salman Rafique said that Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has approved the project on a priority basis, while work has also begun on a new teaching tower worth Rs 4.5 billion. During the visit, the minister conducted a detailed inspection of the hospital’s emergency department, gynecology OPD, radiology department, and eye ward, and inquired about the facilities being provided to patients and their attendants. He also directed authorities to improve cleanliness arrangements in the hospital.
Secretary Azmat Mahmood instructed officials to formulate a comprehensive policy to manage the increasing patient load and ensure the uninterrupted availability of stroke injections.
He further stated that, on the directions of the Chief Minister, the establishment of a Cath Lab at the hospital will also be implemented soon. He directed that the names of in-charge and duty doctors be clearly displayed in all wards, while cleanliness of waiting areas and proper temperature control be ensured for patients’ comfort.
