RAWALPINDI, Aug 19 (APP):Emergency teams from the Punjab Emergency Services Department (Rescue 1122) safely evacuated 150 students after heavy rainwater flooded a madrasa in the Saddar area following continued rainfall.
The water entered to two campuses of the madrasa, where approximately 400 students were present in the main building and 150 in the affected structure. “Rescue teams swiftly shifted the 150 children from the flooded section to the main building”, said a rescue spokesman and confirmed that no casualties or injuries occurred.
He further said that water levels were steadily reducing and the situation had normalized under the continuous supervision of rescue personnel on site.
Rescue 1122 Rawalpindi has placed its entire fleet and field personnel on high alert along Nullah Lai and surrounding low-lying pockets, including Katarian and Gwalmandi, to handle potential urban flooding risks.
Additionally, Rescue-1122 urged residents to observe strict safety precautions during the ongoing monsoon spell. Parents have been advised to prevent children from wandering near utility poles or drainage channels, such as Nullah Lai.
The department also cautioned motorists to drive at low speeds, advised occupants of dilapidated structures to seek safer shelter, and requested tourists to refrain from traveling to hilly areas during heavy downpours.
