MULTAN, Jul 03 (APP): Rescue 1122 Multan has launched an extensive public awareness campaign to promote safety during the ongoing monsoon season, urging citizens to take preventive measures against rain-related emergencies, including building collapses, electrocution and other potential hazards.
Under special directives of Punjab Secretary Emergency Services Dr Rizwan Naseer, District Emergency Officer Rescue 1122 Multan Dr Hussain Mian and his team have launched the campaign advising citizens, religious scholars, mosque committees, educational institutions, traders, industrialists, managements of commercial plazas and members of civil society to ensure precautionary measures in view of the forecast of heavy rainfall and strong winds.
People should inspect the roofs, walls and structurally weak portions of homes, offices, shops, commercial buildings, industrial units, educational institutions, mosques and other structures. Special attention should be given to old, dilapidated buildings and weak wooden roofs, which may collapse during severe weather, posing serious risks to lives and property.
Dr Hussain Mian also stressed the importance of inspecting solar panel installations, including mounting structures, bolts, fittings, wiring and electrical systems, to prevent accidents such as panels being blown away, falling or causing short circuits during storms.
He further urged residents to keep rooftop drains, gutters and water outlets clean to ensure smooth drainage of rainwater, preventing water accumulation and reducing pressure on building structures.
The official advised citizens to stay away from fallen electricity wires, electric poles, transformers and electrical appliances submerged in water during rainfall. He also advised parents to prevent children from swimming or bathing in canals, rivers, rain-fed streams, ponds and stagnant rainwater, and to keep them under constant supervision.
Dr Hussain Mian requested religious leaders and mosque administrations to convey monsoon safety messages during Friday prayers, daily prayers and other religious gatherings to maximize public awareness and encourage precautionary behaviour.
He said Rescue 1122 Multan remained fully alert and prepared to respond to all kinds of emergencies, but emphasized that timely preventive measures remained the most effective way to avoid accidents.
He also urged the public to monitor weather forecasts issued by the Meteorological Department, avoid unnecessary travel during severe weather conditions, follow all safety guidelines and immediately contact the Rescue 1122 helpline in case of any emergency for prompt assistance.
