REEDS distributes kitchen gardening kits to flood-hit families

MULTAN, Jun 05 (APP):The Rural Education and Economic Development Society, with support from Diakonie Katastrophenhilfe distributed kitchen gardening tool-kits among 400 flood-affected households in 20 villages of Union Council 175 Sheni,Jalalpur Pirwala,under the Flood Recovery and Resilience Project on Friday.
The tool-kits,comprising vegetable seeds,gardening tools,a water sprinkler,organic compost,gloves,plastic baskets and other essential items were provided to help families establish home-based kitchen gardens and improve household food security.
As part of the initiative,women beneficiaries received training in climate-smart agriculture practices,kitchen gardening techniques and organic compost preparation aimed at promoting sustainable food production and enhancing nutrition at the household level.
A distribution ceremony was held at the Government Boys High School ground in Khanebella,where participants were also trained in vegetable cultivation and the preparation of organic fertilizers and pesticides.
Speaking on the occasion,Muhammad Alamgir said kitchen gardening enables families to grow fresh vegetables at home, helping reduce household expenses while ensuring access to healthy organic produce.
Beneficiaries welcomed the initiative and said the kitchen gardens would help meet household food needs while creating opportunities for additional income.
Dr.Zeeshan appreciated the organization’s efforts for the welfare and development of flood-affected communities and assured continued support for such programs.
Speaking at the concluding session,Dr.Benjamin Barkat thanked representatives of the agriculture and livestock departments,Village Development Committees,project staff and community members for their cooperation and participation.
