Rawalpindi Women University approves new course with AI integration, revised curricula

RAWALPINDI, Aug 06 (APP): The academic Council of Rawalpindi Women University (RWU) has approved the in-principle integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) across all academic programmes along with launch of a new BS Software Engineering degree to align higher education with global technological standards and other important initiatives.

The decisions were taken during the fourth meeting of the Academic Council, chaired by RWU Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Tayyaba Zarif, where council members reviewed and endorsed a series of strategic academic, research, and administrative reforms.

Highlighting the institution’s push toward emerging technologies, the council evaluated a proposal for establishing a dedicated Faculty of Computing to expand education in modern computing disciplines, an official said here on Thursday.

During the session, the Council approved revised curricula across multiple departments, designed in accordance with Higher Education Commission (HEC) guidelines and international benchmarks. Updated vision and mission statements of various academic departments were also presented and approved to reflect the university’s revised strategic orientation.

Addressing the meeting, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Tayyaba Zarif reaffirmed the university’s commitment to academic quality, research innovation and institutional development. She emphasized that RWU was focused on building a robust academic model that aligned with national priorities while strengthening its international standing, calling for a coordinated strategy to ensure the effective implementation of the approved reforms.

To elevate teaching standards, the Council sanctioned comprehensive faculty development and capacity-building programmes aimed at modernizing pedagogical practices. Existing administrative and academic frameworks were also reviewed to improve operational efficiency.

Underlining student welfare and inclusivity, the Council emphasized a phased upgrade of campus infrastructure to facilitate students with disabilities. Additionally, the Council approved structured internal internship opportunities within the university to provide RWU graduates with practical workplace experience before transitioning into the professional market.

Meanwhile, the council members congratulated the Vice Chancellor on assuming office.

The meeting concluded with collective resolve to the timely execution of all approved policies.
