RAWALPINDI, Aug 22 (APP):Rawalpindi Police achieved a major breakthrough on Saturday in the murder case of social media influencer Shamso Bibi, alias Ayesha Gilamana, arresting five suspects including the victim’s father and brother.
According to police spokesperson, the case had initially appeared to be an untraceable, blind murder, but police succeeded in tracing the culprits through a combination of forensic evidence, human intelligence and technical surveillance.
The arrested suspects include the victim’s father, real brother, cousin, the father’s uncle, and the cousin’s son. Police identified them as father Fazal, brother Bashir, cousin Ehsan, father’s uncle Rozi Khan, and Yaseen, son of the cousin. All five are presently in police custody.
Investigators revealed that the social media influencer was killed in a planned conspiracy orchestrated by her father and brother with the assistance of their accomplices.
The operation was carried out under the directives of City Police Officer (CPO) Hassan Mushtaq Sukhera, who constituted multiple special teams to investigate the case. The teams kept the CPO updated with real-time, moment-by-moment progress reports throughout the investigation.
Police said more than 100 CCTV cameras were scanned during the course of the probe, while all available resources, including human intelligence networks, were utilized to trace the culprits. As the investigation widened, police brought the victim’s father and brother into the scope of inquiry based on circumstantial evidence and the sequence of events.
During interrogation, the accused confessed to having conspired with their accomplices to murder the influencer. Police said the suspects had attempted to stage the scene to mislead investigators and evade the law, but the deception was ultimately exposed through professional investigation.
Preliminary findings suggest the murder was carried out in the name of so-called “honour,” although police said further investigation could bring additional facts to light.
Taxila Police were credited with relentless efforts since the incident to trace and apprehend the culprits, which ultimately led to the arrest of the actual perpetrators through professional police work.
A police spokesperson said the accused would be indicted with solid evidence to ensure they are awarded exemplary punishment, adding that “no matter how cunning the criminals may be, they cannot deceive the law.”
