RAWALPINDI, Mar 31 (APP):The Rawalpindi Police on Tuesday recovered a two-and-a-half-year-old child from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa just hours after he was abducted from the Pirwadhai area, arresting a man and woman in connection with the case.
The police said the toddler was playing in the street with his sister when the suspects forcibly took him and fled. City Police Officer (CPO) Syed Khalid Mahmood Hamdani took immediate notice and directed the Senior Superintendent of Police (SP) Operations and SP Rawal to lead special teams tasked with the child’s swift recovery.
The police quickly established checkpoints across the city and monitored movements through Safe City and other CCTV cameras. Using CCTV footage alongside human intelligence, the teams traced the suspects to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and arrested them. The child was safely recovered from their custody.
CPO Hamdani personally handed the recovered child to his parents, who praised the police for the prompt action. Residents of the area also expressed their gratitude, raising slogans in support of the CPO and the Rawalpindi Police.
The male suspect is an undocumented Afghan national with a prior police record.
CPO Hamdani commended the SSP Operations, SP Rawal, SDPO Waris Khan, and Pirwadhai Police for their efforts, emphasising that the protection of citizens’ lives and property remains a top priority. “Children are our future and our most precious asset; ensuring their safety is the foremost responsibility of Rawalpindi Police,” he said.
A police spokesman added that the force continued to remain vigilant, demonstrating its commitment to maintaining law and order and providing uninterrupted public safety across the district.
