Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh calls free medical camps a noble service to humanity

CHINIOT, Aug 27 (APP): Federal Minister for Board of Investment Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh on Thursday visited a free medical camp organized by Anjuman Islamia, Islamia Hospital Chiniot, at Mouza Asian on the outskirts of Chiniot, where he inspected different departments, reviewed medical facilities being provided to patients and appreciated the services of doctors, paramedical staff and volunteers.

During his visit, the federal minister interacted with patients and inquired about their health. Talking to the media later, he said around 100 million people in Pakistan were living near or below the poverty line, making the provision of free healthcare by philanthropists and welfare organizations a highly commendable service. He said serving humanity had been part of his life since childhood and attributed his ability to serve suffering people to the blessings of Allah Almighty. He stressed that national development required investment not only in infrastructure but also in education, healthcare and human resources.

Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh said millions of children in Pakistan were still out of school and a greater share of national resources should be allocated to education. He said providing the younger generation with quality education, modern technology and skills could help families overcome poverty and strengthen the national economy. Referring to his political career and business experience, he said Pakistan had vast potential for economic growth, but better utilization of resources, clear priorities and control of unnecessary expenditures were essential. He welcomed the establishment of higher educational institutions in Chiniot, saying investment in modern education and skills was an investment in Pakistan’s future.

Commenting on the political and economic situation, the federal minister said corruption, political instability and confrontation had affected the country’s development over the years. He called for a national consensus among all political forces on key issues, particularly education, health and the economy. He also expressed that countries such as China had successfully reduced poverty through education, planning and economic reforms, adding that Pakistan could also overcome poverty through unity and collective efforts. He said agriculture, minerals, industry and value-added products offered significant investment opportunities, but high electricity prices, production costs and administrative hurdles needed to be addressed. He further added that the government was working to create a conducive investment environment, increase employment and promote exports.

Appreciating Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the economic team, Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh said concerted efforts were being made to achieve economic stability. He also lauded Anjuman Islamia, Islamia Hospital Chiniot, doctors, medical staff, philanthropists and administrators for their contribution to providing free healthcare to deserving people.
