Punjab Police have continued an extensive crackdown against electricity theft across the province on the directions of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif, registering 28,216 cases and arresting 20,345 accused during the current year.

LAHORE, Jun 06 (APP): Punjab Police have continued an extensive crackdown against electricity theft across the province on the directions of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif, registering 28,216 cases and arresting 20,345 accused during the current year.
According to a Punjab Police spokesperson, challans in 17,839 electricity theft cases have been completed, while courts have awarded punishments and imposed fines on 2,482 individuals involved in power theft. The spokesperson said the campaign was being carried out vigorously across Punjab to curb electricity theft and protect national resources.
In Lahore alone, 7,298 cases of electricity theft have been registered, while 7,932 accused have been arrested during the ongoing operations.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab Abdul Kareem directed field formations to continue the crackdown against electricity thieves with full commitment and ensure effective enforcement of the law. He emphasized that priority action should be taken against individuals involved in causing losses to the national exchequer through electricity theft.
The IGP added that strict legal action would continue against electricity thieves across the province and that all available resources would be utilized to eliminate the menace and safeguard public assets.
