Punjab launches electric shuttle service at Attock district jail to ease visitor access

ATTOCK, Jun 22 (APP):An electric shuttle service has been launched at the District Jail, Attock as part of the Punjab government’s prison reform programme aimed at improving facilities for visitors and making prison services more accessible.
The initiative was introduced under the directives of Punjab Home Secretary, Dr. Ahmad Javed Qazi and Inspector General, Prisons, Punjab, Mian Salik Jalal, the officials sources said.
Assistant Commissioner, Attock, Arif Mahmood Qureshi formally inaugurated the service, which was established with the support of the Punjab Prisons Foundation.
The project is part of wider efforts to modernize prison infrastructure and enhance public convenience across correctional facilities in Punjab.
The electric shuttle will transport visitors between the jail’s main entrance and the visitors’ shed, providing a safer and more comfortable means of travel within the prison premises.
The sources said the service was expected to particularly benefit elderly visitors, women, persons with disabilities, and families travelling from distant areas.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Superintendent District Jail Attock, Imran Naveed Ashraf appreciated the provincial authorities for supporting the project, describing it as a practical example of the government’s people-focused prison reform agenda.
He said the shuttle service would benefit hundreds of visitors each day by offering convenient transportation within the jail compound, particularly for senior citizens, women and people with disabilities.
