RAWALPINDI, Aug 21 (APP): Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab, Abdul Kareem on Friday directed police officers to ensure foolproof security arrangements for Eid Milad-un-Nabi (PBUH) processions and religious gatherings across the Rawalpindi region.
The IGP issued the directives while chairing an important meeting of senior police officers at the Regional Police Office Rawalpindi, a police spokesperson said in a press release.
Rawalpindi Regional Police Officer Babar Sarfraz Alpa, City Police Officer Hassan Mushtaq Sukhera, Regional Officers of Special Branch and Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), and other senior officers attended the meeting.
The meeting was given a detailed briefing on the crime situation, law and order and overall security arrangements in the region, with particular focus on security preparations for the upcoming Eid Milad-un-Nabi (PBUH).
IGP Abdul Kareem directed the officers to pay special attention to the security of procession routes, venues of religious gatherings and sensitive points.
He ordered that all personnel deployed for security duties be comprehensively briefed about their responsibilities and that senior officers themselves remain present in the field for continuous monitoring of security arrangements.
The IGP also directed police to maintain effective coordination with religious scholars, organisers and district administration during religious gatherings.
Taking a strict view of incidents involving the escape of accused persons from police custody, he ordered supervisory officers to personally monitor such matters.
He directed that security protocols be strictly followed at every stage of police custody, handing over and transportation of accused persons to prevent such incidents.
Under the Punjab Chief Minister’s Safe Punjab vision, the IGP directed police to further strengthen effective patrolling, picketing, search operations and intelligence-based actions to prevent crime.
He ordered that suspects involved in serious crimes be arrested and that investigations into cases be conducted strictly on merit.
The IGP said prompt redressal of citizens’ complaints and timely provision of justice should remain among the top priorities of the police.
He emphasised that protection of citizens’ lives, property, honour and dignity was the foremost responsibility of the police.
The IGP directed senior officers to maintain close field supervision and ensure effective implementation of security and law-and-order measures across the region.
