LAHORE, Aug 05 (APP): The Punjab government on Wednesday fixed the wheat release price at Rs3,800 per 40 kilograms with immediate effect after the provincial cabinet approved the decision, as part of measures to ensure an uninterrupted supply of wheat and flour across the province.
A spokesperson for the Food Safety and Consumer Protection Department said a formal notification had been issued following the cabinet’s approval.
The spokesperson said the federal government had directed Punjab to procure wheat from the Pakistan Agricultural Storage and Services Corporation (PASSCO), under which the province had been granted the immediate supply of 300,000 metric tons of wheat. Earlier, the department had already procured 200,000 metric tons from PASSCO.
The procurement price of wheat from PASSCO had been fixed at Rs4,150 per 40kg, the spokesperson said, adding that the latest decision was being implemented in line with the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) decision of January 28, 2026.
The spokesperson said the initiative was aimed at maintaining a steady supply of wheat and flour in Punjab to prevent shortages and market disruptions. Enhanced wheat availability would help keep flour prices stable and support the government’s commitment to ensuring the availability of Rs15 roti for consumers.
The spokesperson further said that against Punjab’s demand for 800,000 metric tons of wheat, the federal Ministry of National Food Security had allocated 533,440 metric tons. The ministry had also directed the provincial government to complete the procurement schedule and advance payment process at the earliest to facilitate timely delivery of wheat stocks.
