Punjab CM orders survey of dilapidated buildings after monsoon season
LAHORE, Aug 07 (APP): A special meeting was held under the chairmanship of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif regarding the Punjab Development Programme, in which a detailed review of the progress made on the programme was taken.
All deputy commissioners from across Punjab participated in the meeting through video link.
CM Maryam Nawaz directed that a comprehensive survey of dilapidated buildings be conducted in every city of Punjab immediately after the monsoon season so that timely steps can be taken to protect the lives and property of the people.
In the meeting, the Chief Minister ordered the early completion of the Punjab Development Program Phase-I and also directed to prepare a comprehensive case study for it. He also sought an impact study report on sewerage and drainage projects and issued instructions to compile public feedback on the Punjab Development Program.
During the meeting, ongoing development projects in several cities including Vehari, Burewala, Tandlianwala, Jaranwala, Jalalpur Jattan, Sambrial, Muridke, Khudian, Kabirwala, Chak Jhumra, Bhalwal and Attock were reviewed.
Similarly, detailed briefing was given on the projects of Kamalia, Toba Tek Singh, Gojra, Alipur Chatha, Chichawatni, Daska, Layyah, Salanwali, Wazirabad, Bahawalnagar and Mailsi. Reports related to the projects of Sahiwal, Faisalabad, Multan, Gujranwala, Sheikhupura, Nankana Sahib, Rawalpindi and Sialkot were also presented.
The meeting was informed that underground storage tanks have been fully functional in 29 cities of Punjab, while their construction is underway in 21 more cities.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif praised the performance of DC Lahore Captain Ali Ijaz and DC Gujranwala Naveed Ahmed Sheikh and congratulated them.
She said that DC Lahore Captain Ali Ijaz remained on the spot for 27 hours continuously until the last citizen was pulled out of the rubble during the Baghbanpura tragedy, while it is commendable that drainage was completed in less than six hours despite record rainfall in Gujranwala.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif said that due to the new sewerage system in various cities, there has been a clear improvement in the drainage system.
She appreciated the performance of the Deputy Commissioners, Assistant Commissioners, WASA and Suthra Punjab teams during the monsoon and said that all the officers and officials who served day and night for the convenience of the people during the rains deserve congratulations and praise.
