The Punjab Assembly on Thursday passed the Provincial Motor Vehicle (Fourth Amendment) Ordinance 2025 with a majority vote, introducing revisions aimed at reducing fines for various traffic violations.

LAHORE, Apr 23 (APP): The Punjab Assembly on Thursday passed the Provincial Motor Vehicle (Fourth Amendment) Ordinance 2025 with a majority vote, introducing revisions aimed at reducing fines for various traffic violations.
The ordinance will come into effect following final approval by the Governor of Punjab. The House also endorsed amendments earlier approved by the Standing Committee on Interior on April 1.
Under the revised framework, fines for certain motorcycle violations have been reduced from Rs 2,000 to Rs 1,000, with the maximum penalty capped at Rs 2,000. Similarly, fines for some rickshaw violations have been lowered from Rs 3,000 to Rs 1,000, while serious offences by rickshaw drivers will carry a penalty of Rs 2,000.
For cars and jeeps, fines for selected violations have been reduced from Rs 5,000 to Rs 2,000. However, penalties for serious traffic violations across vehicle categories will remain at Rs 5,000. Fines for overspeeding for motorcycles, rickshaws, and cars have also been retained at existing levels.
The amendment further reduces fines for vehicles with engine capacities of 2,000cc and above—from Rs 20,000 to Rs 10,000—setting the minimum fine at Rs 2,000 and the maximum at Rs 10,000. Penalties for Mazda trucks, coasters, small passenger vans, and light transport vehicles have been decreased from Rs 20,000 to Rs 7,000.
In contrast, the maximum fine for trucks, buses, and other heavy vehicles has been increased to Rs 10,000, reflecting a stricter stance on violations involving larger transport vehicles.
