LAHORE, Jun 16 (APP): The Punjab government has allocated Rs33.2 billion for various development projects
under the Health and Population Department in the provincial budget 2026-27, reflecting its commitment to improving healthcare infrastructure and services across the province.
According to budget documents, a substantial portion of the allocation, amounting to Rs25.403 billion, has been proposed for ongoing health sector development projects.
The funding is aimed at ensuring the timely completion of existing initiatives and strengthening healthcare delivery systems.
The government has earmarked Rs3.051 billion for the up-gradation of priority health facilities and the provision of missing essential equipment and services at secondary-level hospitals throughout Punjab. The initiative is expected to enhance the quality of healthcare services available to patients at district and tehsil levels.
The project will focus on addressing critical gaps in healthcare infrastructure and medical equipment, enabling hospitals to provide improved diagnostic and treatment facilities.
In another major initiative, the provincial government has allocated Rs1.709 billion for the establishment of cardiac catheterization laboratories (Cath Labs) at selected District Headquarters (DHQ) hospitals across the province.
The establishment of Cath Labs is expected to improve access to advanced cardiac care and reduce the burden on major tertiary care hospitals by providing specialized heart treatment facilities closer to patients’ homes.
The budget also includes an allocation of Rs800 million for Emergency Service Rescue 1122.
The funds will support the enhancement of emergency response capabilities and help ensure the continued provision of timely rescue and emergency medical services to the public.
