PPP leaders pay tribute to armed forces on Defence Day
RAWALPINDI, Sep 07 (APP):Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Rawalpindi Division President Ashar Hayat Khan and General Secretary Malik Khalid Nawaz Bobby said that September 6, observed as Defence Day, is a proud and unforgettable chapter in the nation’s history, symbolising the bravery, courage and sacrifices of the Pak Army.
They were addressing a dinner hosted by PPP Rawalpindi City General Secretary Malik Asif Akbar in honour of party workers at Khayaban-e-Sir Syed. The event was chaired by City President Mian Khurram Rasool.
The PPP leaders said India had launched a “cowardly attack” on Pakistan under the cover of darkness, but the Pak armed forces responded with determination and courage, inflicting a decisive defeat on the enemy.
Speaking on the occasion, guest of honour and member of the PPP Central Executive Committee Malik Aamir Fida Paracha, PPP Punjab Vice President Rana Riffaqat Ali, former deputy mayor Raja Altaf Hussain, Chaudhry Iftikhar Ahmed, Nasir Mir, Javed Butt, Rashid Butt, Raja Islahuddin, Tauqeer Jadoon, Syed Adarsh Abbas Shirazi and Sameera Gul also addressed the gathering.
Pakistan Peoples Party Youth Organisation Rawalpindi President Abdul Rehman Tawakli performed the duties of stage secretary.
City President Mian Khurram Rasool said Defence Day served as a reminder of the importance of a strong and well-prepared national defence. He said the brave soldiers of the Pak Army had fought on the battlefield and forced the Indian forces to retreat.
He added that the Pak Army continued to be led by experienced and courageous leadership and expressed confidence that India would never dare cast an “evil eye” towards Pakistan.
Rasool further said PPP Rawalpindi City was focusing its attention on the upcoming local government elections.
He announced that the party would begin reorganising ward committees and prepare lists of potential local government candidates in every union council.
He said the candidates would be fielded in a well-organised and vigorous manner, adding that it was encouraging that former elected representatives of the party remained active in public service.
The ceremony concluded with a collective Fateha for the departed souls of the martyrs of Defence Day, martyrs of democracy and other deceased members of the community.
