Police records major drop in crime during first four months of 2026 in Rawalpindi

Police have achieved a significant reduction in crime during the first four months of 2026, continuing the positive trend seen in 2023, 2024, and 2025. 

RAWALPINDI, May 17 (APP): Police have achieved a significant reduction in crime during the first four months of 2026, continuing the positive trend seen in 2023, 2024, and 2025.
According to the details provided by the police spokesperson on Sunday, robbery cases dropped by 86 percent, “blind” murders by 75 percent, overall murders by 32 percent, street crime by 35 percent, motorcycle snatching by 70 percent, other vehicle snatching by 100 percent and car snatching by 40 percent compared to the same period last year.
Kidnapping-for-ransom cases fell by 50 percent while car and motorcycle theft declined by 54 percent and 55 percent, burglary by 46 percent, and other thefts by 25 percent.
During this period, 125 gangs comprising 277 suspects were arrested, resulting in the recovery of 24 cars, 264 motorcycles, 8 rickshaws, and valuables worth millions of rupees.
Police also conducted 21 encounters, killing 14 dangerous criminals and arresting 19 injured suspects.
City Police Officer (CPO) Syed Khalid Mahmood Hamdani emphasized that the continued drop in crime is due to the dedication and hard work of every officer, reaffirming that crime prevention and public safety remain the top priorities of Rawalpindi Police.
