RAWALPINDI, Sep 20 (APP):Federal Minister for Railways Muhammad Hanif Abbasi said the government was focusing on transforming Rawalpindi into a greener and more recreational city by developing modern parks, playgrounds and other public facilities.
Addressing the inauguration ceremonies of Allama Iqbal Park and Milad Park, Abbasi said safe, accessible and well-maintained public spaces were important for promoting a healthy and active society. He said particular attention was being given to providing families with secure environments for recreation and outdoor activities.
The minister said the government was working to ensure the provision of basic amenities in every constituency and union council of Rawalpindi. He added that the newly inaugurated parks would provide residents with improved facilities for leisure, sports and other outdoor activities.
He said surveillance cameras and other security arrangements had been installed at the parks to enhance the safety of visitors.
Discussing civic infrastructure, Abbasi said work was under way to address issues related to gas, water, electricity and sewerage. He said old pipelines, some of which were 40 to 50 years old, were being replaced, while streets, roads and other infrastructure were also being repaired and upgraded.
The minister said several major development projects had already been completed in Rawalpindi with the special attention of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, while work on a number of other schemes was continuing.
Abbasi said the government was utilising available resources to improve public services and municipal infrastructure, with efforts focused on better transport, upgraded public spaces and essential civic facilities.
He also described Pakistan as a peaceful and secure country and credited the Pakistan Army for maintaining the country’s security.
Member of the National Assembly Tahira Aurangzeb, Punjab Parliamentary Secretary for Emergency Services Ziaullah Shah, Member of the Provincial Assembly Asma Naz Abbasi and a large number of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz workers attended the ceremonies.
