Pleasant weather prevails in city after rainfall

Heavy rainfall lashed Lahore on Saturday, bringing much-needed relief from the prevailing heatwave and turning the weather pleasant, while causing water accumulation in several low-lying areas of the provincial capital.

LAHORE, May 30 (APP): Heavy rainfall lashed Lahore on Saturday, bringing much-needed relief from the prevailing heatwave and turning the weather pleasant, while causing water accumulation in several low-lying areas of the provincial capital.
According to official data, Nishtar Town recorded the highest rainfall of 48.5 mm.
Significant rainfall was also recorded in the airport area, while moderate showers were reported from Johar Town, Lakshmi Chowk, Mughalpura, Upper Mall, Tajpura and several other localities.
The rain lowered temperatures across the provincial capital after days of intense heat, prompting many residents to venture outdoors and enjoy the cooler weather.
However, the downpour led to waterlogging at various roads, streets and underpasses, affecting the flow of traffic in different parts of the city.
Municipal and rescue teams were mobilized to address the situation and facilitate commuters.
The Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) remained on high alert and monitored the drainage operation across Lahore. WASA teams carried out water clearance activities in low-lying areas while all disposal stations were kept fully operational to ensure the swift drainage of accumulated rainwater.
Efforts were focused on clearing major roads, maintaining smooth traffic flow and ensuring the continuous cleaning of sewerage lines.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast partly cloudy weather with chances of rain, windstorms and thunderstorms at isolated places in Lahore and parts of Punjab during the next 24 hours.
The department warned that some areas may experience strong winds, heavy rain and hailstorms.
The PMD advised citizens to exercise caution during adverse weather conditions and stay updated on official weather advisories as weather conditions are expected to remain unstable in the coming days.
