LAHORE, Apr 06 (APP): The Environment Protection Agency (EPA), Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA), and youth development organization Bargad, in collaboration with FAST Cables, have jointly launched the “Young Greeners Plantation Campaign,” aiming to plant 5,000 indigenous trees across two public parks in Lahore to promote a greener, cleaner, and more climate-resilient urban environment.
In this regard, an inauguration ceremony was held at a local park in Lahore on Monday, bringing together more than 100 youth participants, volunteers, and community members. The event featured active participation from key stakeholders including Sabiha Shaheen, Executive Director Bargad, Mansoor Ahmed Director General PHA, Kamal Mahmood Amjad CEO FAST Cables, and Muhammad Waqar Inspector EPA.
Participants collectively planted saplings and offered prayers for the success and sustainability of the initiative, reaffirming their commitment to environmental stewardship and community-led climate action.
The ceremony was attended by distinguished representatives from academia, civil society, and development sectors, including Muhammad Hammad Ur Rehman (Volunteers in Service Department, University of Central Punjab), Advocate Zeeshan Zafar, and Hussain Hashmi (Assistant Director, Projects and Rehabilitation, Council on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, Department of Social Welfare and Bait-ul-Mal).
Youth and volunteer networks such as NYVN, BVN, Youth Volunteer Organization, and Environmental Health Care Organization also actively contributed to the plantation drive, highlighting strong community engagement and youth ownership of environmental initiatives.
Prominent faith-based and community figures including Allama Asghar Chishti and Allama Salman Shakir, along with young climate activists and leaders such as Abdul Wahab, Sahar Sohail, Aliza Aziz, Muzammil Majeed, Usama Nasir, and Rabia Dar, also participated in the event. The presence of emerging young achievers, including chess champion Aayat Asmi, further reflected the inclusive and youth-driven spirit of the campaign.
Speakers underscored that the initiative reflects a collective commitment to climate action and environmental sustainability, emphasizing that expanding green cover is essential for improving urban livability and public well-being.
The campaign’s central message was encapsulated in its slogan: “Jithey Haryali, Othey Khushhali”, highlighting the strong link between greener spaces and community prosperity.
