RAWALPINDI, Mar 15 (APP): Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has urged citizens to register any food safety complaints on its helpline 1223 to help curb adulteration and counterfeit food products ahead of Eid al-Fitr.
In a recent operation in Rawalpindi, PFA teams busted a large unit involved in manufacturing fake products of well-known brands in the Ganjmandi Ratta Amral area and arrested two suspects.
According to a PFA spokesperson, the raid was conducted on the basis of secret information. During the operation, officials recovered 100 kilograms of loose tea leaves, 96 kilograms of fake tea packed in the packaging of popular brands and 200 kilograms of corn that was being prepared for packing under different well-known brand labels.
Authorities also seized a large quantity of empty packaging of various reputed brands from the warehouse.
The warehouse owner, Usman Raza, and an employee, Ahsan Hussain, were arrested on the spot. Initial investigations revealed that the counterfeit products were being prepared for sale ahead of Eid ul Fitr.
The legal proceedings have been initiated against the suspects and all the counterfeit goods recovered during the raid have been taken into custody.
