RAWALPINDI, Aug 04 (APP):The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) Rawalpindi carried out a crackdown against food adulteration and raided an ice lollies production unit in Gujar Khan, destroying 8,000 substandard ice lollies and imposing a fine of Rs 50,000 on the unit.
According to a PFA spokesperson here on Tuesday, inspection teams collected samples of the ice lollies during the operation, all of which failed the prescribed quality standards. The inspection further revealed that the products were being prepared using artificial sweeteners and substandard ingredients, posing a potential risk to consumers, particularly children.
The spokesperson said the entire stock of substandard ice lollies was destroyed on the spot to prevent it from reaching the market, while legal action was taken against the production unit in accordance with food safety regulations.
The Punjab Food Authority reiterated its commitment to ensuring the availability of safe and quality food across the province, adding that strict action against food adulteration and unsafe food production would continue without discrimination.
The authority also urged citizens to report food-related complaints or violations through the PFA helpline 1223 to help ensure prompt action against violators.
