PFA recovers 700kg of unwholesome meat during raid on illegal slaughterhouse

LAHORE, Aug 15 (APP): The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) team on Saturday raided an illegal slaughterhouse in the Saggian area and recovered 700 kilograms of foul-smelling, expired meat.

According to spokesperson, during the inspection, the 700 kg of unwholesome meat was found. Meat safety team inspected that meat had turned blue and confirmed to be infected with multiple dangerous diseases.

Severe hygiene violations, including a heavy infestation of flies and insects, broken flooring, stagnant dirty water, and fungus-covered walls, were also observed at the premises.

The Director General  Raja Mansoor Ahmad stated that the illegal slaughter and storage facility had been operating secretly inside a residential area. The facility operated without any valid food license or mandatory records and the meat was being stored directly on the floor in flagrant violation of food safety standard operating procedures (SOPs).

He added that the owner managed to flee the site but FIR has been lodged against the owner of the slaughterhouse

He further noted that the 700 kg of unwholesome meat was subsequently disposed of by burning it in a PIMCO furnace

The PFA chief reiterated that ensuring the provision of safe and quality food to citizens remains the foremost priority of the authority.
