LAHORE, Sep 25 (APP): The enforcement team of Punjab Food Authority conducted a operation against food safety violators in Rasul Park, Kot Lakhpat, Nishter Town and adjoining areas, sealing two food units and lodging an FIR, while imposing fines amounting to Rs115,000 on eight food units. More than 1,000kg fungus-infested cheese, 800 litres of substandard oil, 600kg pakoras and 150 litres of milk were discarded.
Food safety teams raided 11 food units and seized two mixing machines, two cauldrons, seven plastic drums, a weighing scale, colour-cutting equipment and drums. An FIR was lodged against a milk shop after its milk sample failed laboratory testing. A nimco factory was also sealed after substandard oil and unsafe pakoras were recovered from the premises.
Spokesperson further stated that a renowned ice cream unit was sealed after all six samples collected from the facility failed testing. Poor sanitation arrangements, a foul-smelling environment and heavy infestation of insects were found during the inspection.
He said team also found that employees lacked mandatory medical screening and food safety training certificates. PFA spokesperson further stated that enforcement operations against substandard and unsafe food products were being continued to ensure the provision of safe and quality food to citizens.
