PFA lodges 2 FIRs, seals 2 units, seizes fat-based oil and offal

LAHORE, Apr 01 (APP):An enforcement team of Punjab Food Authority (PFA), under the directions of Director General PFA Muhammad Asim Javaid, carried out a crackdown in Karol Ghatti. During the operation, 3,200kg of animal fat and offal and 650kg of fat-based oil were seized. Two units were sealed on the spot, FIRs were lodged against the accused and drums and large cooking cauldrons were confiscated.
Food safety teams revealed that the accused were illegally producing oil from animal fat and offal in a residential area. Action was taken due to absence of mandatory oil records and valid licenses.
The DG PFA stated that oil prepared from offal can only be used for biodiesel purposes and its use in cooking is a serious offense.
He said that vigilance teams have been assigned to trace the supply chain of the prepared oil. He said that businesses involved in endangering public health for profit will be eliminated completely.
