PFA disposes of 600kg substandard meat in Rawalpindi
RAWALPINDI, Aug 16 (APP):The Punjab Food Authority (PFA), Rawalpindi, has disposed of 600 kilograms of substandard and hazardous meat during an operation against the sale of unsafe meat in the city.
Acting on a tip-off, PFA officials raided a meat shop on Bostan Khan Road in Dhoke Chaudhrian and found 600kg of meat without any official slaughterhouse stamp or purchase and sale record.
A veterinary doctor present at the site examined the meat and declared it unfit and hazardous for human consumption. The seized meat, worth approximately Rs780,000, was destroyed on the spot.
One person was arrested from the site, while legal proceedings have been initiated against the violator.
The PFA spokesperson said that a province-wide crackdown against substandard and unsafe meat was underway. Citizens can lodge complaints with the Punjab Food Authority through its helpline 1223.
