PFA discards 370kg substandard spices, other material during raids

Punjab Food Authority (PFA) launched a major crackdown against food adulteration and unhygienic production practices in Multan, confiscating and destroying large quantity of substandard food items during raids on papad manufacturing units, drink corners, and a soda water plant.

MULTAN, Jun 21 (APP): Punjab Food Authority (PFA) launched a major crackdown against food adulteration and unhygienic production practices in Multan, confiscating and destroying large quantity of substandard food items during raids on papad manufacturing units, drink corners, and a soda water plant.
The operations were conducted on the directions of Director General PFA, Syed Musa Raza, as part of an ongoing campaign to ensure the availability of safe and quality food, particularly products commonly consumed by children.
According to PFA officials, food safety teams inspected several food businesses in Bahawalpur road, Bahawalpur chowk, 17-Kasi and Rashidabad areas. During inspections, authorities found rotten potatoes, open and substandard spices, and contaminated solutions being used in the preparation of papad and other food items.
The enforcement teams seized and destroyed 370 kilograms of substandard spices and rotten potatoes, 350 litres of contaminated solution, 40 litres of substandard soda water, and 152 sachets of banned gutka. In addition, five food outlets were fined a total of Rs145,000 for violating food safety regulations and hygiene standards.
Speaking on the occasion, DG PFA Syed Musa Raza, said that strict action would continue against those involved in adulteration and fraud in food products, particularly children’s items.
He directed food business owners to strictly comply with food safety laws.
