RAWALPINDI, Jun 05 (APP): Punjab Food Authority (PFA) conducted a major operation in Rawalpindi, seizing and destroying 1,200 kilograms of substandard and unhealthy meat during a checkpoint operation near the Thalian Motorway Toll Plaza.
One suspect was arrested in connection with the case.
According to a PFA spokesperson on Friday, the meat was being transported from the Sargodha-Jhang Road area and was intended for distribution in various parts of Rawalpindi. Acting on a tip-off, food safety teams established a checkpoint near the motorway toll plaza and intercepted a suspicious vehicle.
During the search, officials recovered a large quantity of meat that had allegedly been concealed during transportation. A veterinary doctor present at the scene examined the meat and declared it unfit for human consumption and hazardous to public health. The entire consignment was subsequently destroyed on the spot.
A case has been registered on the complaint of the PFA, while police have confiscated vehicle for further investigation.
PFA officials reiterated their commitment to take strict action against individuals involved in compromising public health.
They stated that the crackdown against suppliers of substandard and unsafe meat is being intensified across the province.
