Pakistan’s pivotal role hailed as MCCI welcomes US-brokered Iran ceasefire

MULTAN, Apr 08 (APP):The Multan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) on Wednesday welcomed the two-week ceasefire announced by Donald Trump amid the Iran-US/Israel conflict, terming it a positive step toward regional stability and global peace, and appreciating Pakistan’s constructive role in brokering the agreement.
MCCI President Mian Bakhtawar Sheikh, talking to APP, said the credit for the development goes to Pakistan’s armed forces as well as the civil government, which worked in close coordination to help facilitate the deal. “Pakistan has a deep understanding of regional dynamics and the United States’ strategic narrative, which enabled it to play an effective and responsible role,” he said.
He expressed optimism that if the ceasefire holds, it would help restore normalcy in the global situation. Stressing that war is never a solution, he noted that conflicts invariably trigger crises worldwide. “Any escalation in the Middle East directly affects our region and indirectly impacts the entire world, particularly through energy shocks,” he added.
Bakhtawar Sheikh pointed out that rising tensions typically push up crude oil prices in international markets, which in turn fuel inflation in Pakistan. “As a country dependent on imports, increases in oil prices lead to higher costs of essential commodities, including ghee, vegetables and other food items,” he explained.
He observed that the negative repercussions of war tend to persist for a prolonged period before any positive outcomes emerge. Recalling the India–Pakistan conflict in May last year, he said Pakistan emerged stronger on the global stage, enhancing its international standing.
“Once again, Pakistan’s role in facilitating a ceasefire between the US, Israel and Iran is commendable,” he said, expressing hope that the temporary truce would eventually turn into a permanent peace arrangement, which is vital for global stability.
