Over 7,19,000 children immunized in Rawalpindi, catch-up drive initiates
RAWALPINDI, Sep 25 (APP):Door-to-door vaccination teams across Rawalpindi district successfully administered oral polio drops to more than 7,19,000 children during the recent anti-polio campaign, health officials confirmed on Thursday as executive evaluations began.
Head of the Anti-Polio Program Khalid Pervez, in a statement said that field teams completed extensive coverage across all targeted union councils and high-risk pockets in Rawalpindi.
Emphasizing that preventing the re-entry of the poliovirus remains the top administrative priority, Pervez highlighted that achieving the zero-polio target in 2026 requires continuous operational enhancements and steadfast public cooperation.
He urged parents to consistently assist field vaccinators to ensure no child under five is missed during immunization rounds.
The provincial campaign across nine selected districts concluded with comprehensive performance audits underway.
Across Punjab, over 7.5 million children received polio drops by the end of the fourth day, including 5.569 million covered through direct household visits. Among other key districts, Multan recorded 7,52,000 child immunizations, while Lahore surpassed 1.2 million doses administered, with field operations continuing through Sunday.
Health authorities in Rawalpindi are making efforts to maximise outreach to children who were missed, a Health Department spokesperson said.
